5 Tips To Keep Your Home Together When You Have A Dog

When you have a dog, life is different.

Even if you were someone that had a ton of pets when you were little, actually getting your own dog when you’re an adult is life-changing.

If you get a dog before you have children, then you will often find that it’s a kind of stepping stone between just being you and then having a family. And you’re going to learn a lot.

One of those things is that you will learn that dogs can mess up your house a little a lot. But they don’t have to. And you don’t have to let them.

Instead, you can make sure that your home looks great most of the time, but you have to be conscious about it. And here are five ways that can help you do it.

1. Set Boundaries

One of the most important things that you need to do here, is to set boundaries. If you let your dog rule the roost, they will! If you let them roam all over the house and tear it up, they will.

So set boundaries. Be kind about it, but don’t let them have free access all around the house.

2. Keep Special Rooms Special

Something that you can do here, is to make sure that you’re able to keep certain rooms special.

Maybe you don’t want your dog in the living room or in the bedroom? Then don’t let them in. Don’t let them into the special rooms that you know you want to keep looking great.

3. Choose Tasteful Pieces

You may be wondering what you can do to make the ‘dog things’ in your life fit in with your interiors?

Make sure that you pick tasteful things, like a grey tweed dog bed or bowls that match the kitchen.

4. Up Your Cleaning Schedule

Sure, your house may be a little messier now – but so what? You just have to work a little harder to keep your house clean.

You will want to make sure that your cleaning schedule now matches how clean you want the house to be.

5. Try A Little Harder

And, it’s important to realize that you just have to try harder.

You cannot expect to slot a dog into your life and your home and to keep things the same. You have to make changes.

You need to walk them and care for them, sure – but you also have to work a little harder around the house too. You need to maybe clean more or to vacuum up with a better machine, or better products.

You can always make sure that your home is looking great even with a dog.
